20 HP. CHASSIS - CENTRALISED LUBRICATION.
-------------------------------------------

Further to BY/Cgh{W Clough}9/G.11.6.29. in which we instructed that the Works are to fit the original lubricators on the front and rear axles, we understand that the Order Office have held up these parts so that they will only be available for a certain number of cars. In order to keep the Works going it will be necessary to get more parts ordered, therefore since we know that the original fittings are unsatisfactory, we consider that the best way out of the difficulty is to order the lubricators to the designs received from WW.

In regard to the lubricators for the mechanic's joints, the Experimental Department now report that the model submitted by Messrs. Benton & Stone is quite satisfactory, therefore will you please order these in accordance with this model and drawing F.77765.

All the above should be ordered in sufficient quantities for the whole of 'O' series from the 51st chassis onwards, as it is intended to fit the new parts retrospectively on all those which have been fitted with the original lubricators immediately the Experimental Department are satisfied that the new types are satisfactory.

The Test Department should keep a record of the cars on which the original lubricators have been fitted, so that they can be changed later on.

So far as the 40/50 HP. chassis for J.2 series are concerned, we should also instruct the WW. schemes for the front and rear axle lubricators, and the new non-return valve type of lubricator referred to above for the universal joints.
