X3854 To EY. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to Gor. c. to Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LGS. 2. 22. "WOODHEAD" SPRINGS. With reference to the springs sent to us by Messrs. Woodheads made to their own design. We have bumped these springs for 30 hours on the rear of a chassis. We have had one of the springs break after that same time. The top leaf has fractured. The other spring is still O.K. The test, so far, shows these latest Woodhead springs to be better than those we have previously tested. The average life of the previous rear springs was - 18 hours. We should be glad to have some more of these Woodhead springs to test. We recommend that we obtain 6 sets. The poundages for the rear should be - 2 700 lbs. 2 800 " 2 900 " for the front - 2 500 lbs. 2 550 " 2 600 " We could then either use those springs on the bump test or on cars which are running about.
