JOHN T. MURRAY, 4, Water Street, MANCHESTER [Stamped over address: 12, ALBERT STREET] TELEPHONE : CENTRAL 5510 M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Stroboscopic Tachometer PATENT S. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Hand instrument for « slowed down » observation and speed measurement in all industries, including the following : MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS — AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERS SPINNING & DOUBLING MILLS (Cotton, Wool, Linen, Jute, Hemp, Ramie, Silk & Artificial Silk) WORKSHOP APPARATUS The M.D.D. Stroboscopic Tachometer is essentially an instrument for the factory, which can be used by one workhand, male or female. It can be held without fatigue in the hand and does not require either support, accumulator or special lamp. It is connected to the lamp circuit by means of a suitable length of flexible connection. (However, when there is no electricity or where the lamps are inaccessible, we can supply a small portable accumulator to work the instrument). This apparatus has been introduced throughout the world in all industries by reason of its low price, efficiency and the simplicity of its operation. WORKING All machines and mechanisms of whatever movement working at full speed, appear suddenly to go slower as soon as lighted by means of the luminous rays of the M.D.D. Stroboscope. By operating the regulating knob it is possible to accelerate or reduce this apparent slowing down. By this same regulating knob it is possible to also create the illusion of complete stoppage. At this precise moment the dial of the instrument indicates the exact speed without coming in contact with the moving object. When the light is too bright for the object to be observed to be effective, the Stroboscope is then used without lamp, and the object is viewed through a small hole in the end of the dome which gives equal precision and sharpness. GRADUATIONS The instrument can be supplied with any desired graduation, the normal range being to 3000, 6000, 10000, 12000 and 24000 r.p.m. Instruments graduated to 6000, 10000, 12000 and 24000 r.p.m. may be transformed instantly to read at 3000 r.p.m. These apparatuses therefore have two working ranges. The readings are accurate to 0.5%. GUARANTEE The M.D.D. Stroboscopes are guaranteed against constructional faults for one year. SEVERAL APPLICATIONS CHOSEN AMONG 1,000 OTHERS SPINNING & DOUBLING MACHINES The easy and reliable method of checking the speed of the spindles, and of detecting those not running to speed is vastly superior to the uncertain method of Hand Tachometer and will be still more appreciated when it is taken into account that it is unnecessary to interrupt the working of the frames and that the controlling of 1000 spindles requires less than fifteen minutes. Apart from the indication of speed it will be of interest to observe the regularity of rotation, slippage of belts, the rotation of the traveller on the ring and the « slowed down » effects of various working parts. SELF-ACTING MULES One is often surprised to find that the maximum speed is only obtained at the end of the run. Also the examination of the irregularity of speed of the main driving or of the individual motor will bring to light the inadequacy of the group motor or of bad slippage of the driving belts. SPINNING FRAMES FOR ARTIFICIAL SILK The illustration shows the checking of the centrifugal spindles of a viscose spinning frame. The necessity of this control is no longer in doubt because not only the quantity and quality of the production depend on it but the wear of the working parts will be found to be reduced. In fact a box or pot which is not running at full speed always conceals a grave defect such as cut phase in the electric spindle, wear of the mushrooms, unbalance etc. [Image Captions and references] The M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Stroboscope with lamp checking the spindles of a Ring Spinning Frame.
