SpectreCodename for Phantom III No. 10 (10,000 Miles Unit).

Will you please carry out the following on this unit, which has been tested and returned to you for inspection.

(1) Carburetters.

Pistons very sluggish in movement. Check the levels at .675 to .700 from the top cover face under 2 lbs. pressure.

Fit longer throttle adjustment screws; these should be perfectly free in the thread of the control arm. Check the throttles for bedding in the bores in the closed position.

When the damping bolt is slackened off on the coupling shaft between the carburetters, the two throttles should be perfectly free and independent of each other. At present this is very tight. Arrangements should be made so that when the throttles have been adjusted in the closed position, the nut of the damping bolt comes to the top and can be locked up without moving the throttles. Return springs to be fitted to the rear carburetters.

In order to overcome a "flat spot" on opening up from slow running, we have had to reduce the height of the collar on the piston spindle E.85588 from .175" to .100". For the same reason the original slow running jets .025" diameter have been fitted. The above only applies to reverse throttle carburetters and should be carried out on future carburetters of this type.

(2) Oil Cooler Matrix.

The matrix at present fitted belongs to the test bed and should be replaced by one which has been made by the improve constructive method.

(3) Oil pump gears very noisy.
