contd :- -2- Wash the whole outside of the shock absorber with water. FRONT. Release locking nut and unscrew adjusting nut until it is quite free. Then tighten up adjusting nut with the fingers until it begins to bite. This is the datum point of zero loading. Using a spanner - lock nut after setting. Turns from datum. Approx. load lbs. 2 10 3 15 4 20 5 25 6 30 REAR. Slack the adjusting nut off completely (say 3 turns) then tighten up gently until the spider spring can only just be rotated by the fingers. This is the datum point of zero loading. Turns from datum. Approx. load lbs. 1 complete 25 1 1/4 " 45 1 1/2 " 65 If in doubt, the shock absorber should be disconnected and the poundage checked by weights. Since the front shock absorbers are quite accessible, this is really the best method of checking their loading. Friction surfaces do not maintain a very constant co-efficient of friction, hence in cases of riding complaints checking of shock absorber setting is always advisable.
