1263 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}17/JH.15.4.37. 15th April, 1937. The S.U. Company Ltd., Bordesley Green, Adderley Park, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Leslie Kent. Dear Sirs, We have carefully tried the two pumps which I returned on Monday for examination. No.3.A.X.15 in which we could find no trace of valve leaks. Refused to pick up at all in the Test Department rig the valves were examined and found perfectly good. The suction head used is about 4' 6" with filter and equivalent length of pipe as used on the chassis. When the pump was finally primed the valves were buzzing very badly and we suspect that this pump has not had the modified valve lift, or went through before this was done. We are returning it to be corrected under separate cover and would like you to return it to the Test Dept. The second pump which was drawing air showed this clearly on the test rig and was traced to a faulty union. The Third pump RB.{R. Bowen}2012 which was reported as leaking through the solenoid and in which you could find nothing, is definitely leaking and I would be glad if you would pressure test the diaphragm as I suspect the spindle. This pump should be repaired and returned to Kingsbury. We have also returned one pump No. G.5650 in which there is a large piece of alum shaving under the suction valve. Return to Test Dept. It is evident from these cases that our test rigs are more searching than yours and detect faults you allow through and we feel it would be in your interest to have similar rigs, we should be glad to give you details. | ||
