(ii) We propose to try out a cooler with a modified top plate to E.88558 - this should minimise distortion of the union faces and may obviate need for machining.

We should like to know how soon you will have in operation the improved methods of production mentioned above - the writer is keeping a careful record from this date of all coolers received by us together with any failures or rejects and the reasons for same, until we are definitely clear of the above troubles.

As a matter of interest, we should like to know the composition of the solder used for coolers by the Harrison people, and whether you can recommend any solder to give better results than that used on our coolers at present (apart from the price question)

Finally, we should like to hear from you further on the subject of guaranteed radiator matrix weights, as soon as you have gone into this matter and would remind you that you promised us a delivery date for the two lightened Mk.Vl.{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} matrices which we recently ordered from you.

We regret the length of this letter, but thought it advisable to put in writing the position of the oil cooler question, which up to now has been a very vexed one.

Thanking you for your courtesy to the writer while at Wolverhampton.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
