X3599 Hsl/LG. Messrs. The Dunlop Rubber Co., Aston Cross, Birmingham. 29th. Aug. 1922. Dear Sirs, Referring to your telephone message of this afternoon. The Car which Major Hodges was driving in France when the rim came off the wheel, was a R.W. fitted with a Goodyear demountable rim which is the same type as that used on the Dunlop. We have had three cases altogether now of the rim being lost - two of these have definitely occurred with Dunlop rims. Since last writing to you, we have carried out some tests revolving the wheel to see at what speed the demountable rim opens out. The results of the tests have quite impressed us with the fact that some form of locking device is desirable. We have proved that a very simple locking device made by twisting a piece of wire round two pegs will make the rim safe at any speed. Yours faithfully, | ||
