LONG DURATION CAMSHAFTS FOR F.{Mr Friese} TYPE ENGINE

The long duration camshafts for the above engine, which have been tested under official observance of the A.I.D. and accepted will have to be used as standard until new camshafts made in accordance with Mr. Royce's latest figures have been tested.

The long duration camshafts referred to have been made by taking the standard cam forms and increasing the angle by inserting a wedge in the centre, leaving a flat surface at the top.

The full particulars of the camshafts are given on Experimental Drawing V.116/7 and V.{VIENNA} 392/3.

It will be noticed that the long duration camshafts we are adopting for present production have exactly the same accelerations and decelerations as the camshafts originally used. New camshafts made to R.{Sir Henry Royce}'s latest proposals will give us easier accelerations and therefore enable us to run at higher speeds without increasing the valve spring strengths.
