contd :- -4- The fan and bracket are in good condition and have given no trouble. Magneto & drive. Magneto and drive are in good condition. Dynamo. We have had no trouble with the dynamo. It was necessary during continuation of run to clean the commutator, as it had become dirty and brushes had started to sing. Examination at end of run - condition of commutator and brushes was good, there was a slight amount of carbon dust on the brush gear. Oil pump. The oil pump with gears drilled to supply lubrication to its bearings has worked satisfactory since attending to the relief valve and plugging the holes up. We have released one hole at a time in each gear, until failure of pressure after braking was definite. We found that the limit is reached when 4 holes are opened in each gear, and that with 3, it is not certain, with 2 holes in each gear it is quite satisfactory; the pressure building up immediately after braking. We are continuing to run the pump in this condition. Battery ignition. Improved ventilation to distributor, window in head and holes in base. EPC4/T15.1.26. Tungsten contacts. The distributor head has remained clean and free from oil. The bottom half of condenser in pocket was covered with oil. The tungsten point, we had reported had developed a pip on the finger contact, has now increased in size and the corresponding hole in contact screw is too large for a good contact to be certain. The remaining surface is pitted. We have fitted a spare set of contacts and these taken off have been sent to EPC. The engine at slow speeds had begun to misfire, one of the causes being the contact points. We have had no trouble with the coil, but should like to point out that dust finds its way in through the wire conduits. The top of the coil was XXXX covered with dust when cap was removed. Bonnet & fittings. The bonnet and fittings have remained in good condition generally. We have had no trouble at this mileage with bonnet strips coming loose or breaking. The bonnet clips are not quite satisfactory. We still require more clearance between the clips on panels and brackets fastened to strips. The bottom of barrel of N.S. rear clip is now resting on the bracket when the bonnet is shut, with the result that no load is on the clip, this has started it to chatter away. This condition quickly makes the bonnet unsafe. Engine Guards. We have had very wet weather during the continuation of the test and engine guards have again become choked with contd :- | ||
