grit, and the rear of engine dirty. We have observed that this is due to the dirt and water being flung on to the engine case and square front of gearbox undershield which diverts it upwards through the louvres. The gearbox undershield being the chief offender. We would suggest that the gearbox undershield be rounded off similar to the Phantom, from the position where engine guards join on to it. We would also suggest that half circular guards which should be in length the dia. of the hole, be fitted to engine guards where main oil pipe, exhaust pipe and drain from water pump go through guards.

Gearbox undershield.

This requires alterations to conform with the report on engine guards, otherwise it is satisfactory in keeping the gearbox and servo mechanism free from dirt.

Radiator.

This has kept in good condition. We have observed that the stay from radiator to dashboard makes the top of dashboard whip through the movement of the radiator, and is a cause of the bonnet chattering at the ends.

Radiator shutter and controls.

The controls have continued to operate satisfactory during the dirty conditions it has had to withstand. There is a slight rattle from shutters and slight loss of movement in controls due to wear having taken place in the bottom connecting links.

Dashboard & brackets.

The top corners of dashboard have become further damaged through the movement of the scuttle, there are also identifications where ends of bonnet have chattered. Brackets have remained firm.

Steering column and box.

We have not had any more trouble with nuts working loose as previously reported. The oil has leaked out of box from the flange at bottom of steering column and from pendulum lever shaft bearing. It has been necessary to replace the loss by half a syringe full of oil. The condition of the steering has remained similar to that previously reported with the exception that wobbles have now materialised at slow speeds (20 m.p.h. approx). These we are of the opinion have developed through the nut and worm having worn, with the consequent loss of friction which was just sufficient to prevent the wobbles. As stated previously it was on the verge of wobbles at the beginning of the test. These are not violent unless the wheel is held with a firm grip.

Front axle and pivots.

We cannot detect any fault with the front axle. The brake operating shafts have continued to operate satisfactory
