1181 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}7/AP. August 17th 1937 Gandy's Brake Linings Ltd., 21 Marsden Square, MANCHESTER Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Davies and Mr.Iken With reference to the visit of the above named gentlemen to these Works on Thursday 12th inst., confirming the points discussed. We see no superiority of 400 M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} special over, say, Ferodo B.2. which is now standard on Bentley, but should you care to supply, free, a set of linings GB.750, 751, 752 and 754 4 pieces of each per car, we agree to fit them to a car should an opportunity present itself. As regards the ordinary 400.M. impregnated with graphite we agree to order two sets of same for Bentley and R.R.25/30.HP. cars and will fit same should it behave reasonably on a rig. A set of the 25/30.HP. sizes is 4 pieces of the drawings GW.371 and GW.685, enclosed. Will you please provide us with a name for the new lining so that we may order it officially. Since the visit of your representatives we have tested the 400.N.M. and find it squeaks. We do not like the present type of bedding you use, whether it is an oil soluble resin or not, and therefore only regard the graphite impregnation as a palliative, at the best. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
