re Peregrine and J.3. Clutch Operation.

Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} would like to know if you have any criticisms to raise with regard to the easy engagement device on the above clutches. You will recollect that this involves the use of set-up springs on the mechanism engaging the presser.plate.

Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} is at the moment engaged on some Peregrine clutch design work, and the proposal is to go back to the Phantom sprung plate type of easy engagement. They think possibly this latter is superior, firstly because it may make more easily possible the provision of a screw adjustment for the clutch fingers, and secondly in the case of the foot being slipped off the clutch pedal there is a difference in the degree of suddenness with which the clutch engages.
