off the worm wheel, the oil film
evidendy having been broken through.
The axle had to be run under light load
for a considerable time before it
would run anything like satisfactory
and give reasonable efficiency.
3. When on retard the axle is very
inefficient and there appears to be
continual brake on the car when the
throttle is closed, one has to use
power to coast down hill which on
cars fitted with ordinary axles one
has to use brakes.
As regards forward drive the axle is still
very efficient and running well also the
worm and worm wheel do not appear to be
suffering badly from wear and tear and are
in considerably better condition than the
Lanchester worm.
