The axle had to be run under light load for a considerable time before it would run anything like satisfactory and give reasonable efficiency. 3. When on retard the axle is very inefficient and there appears to be continual brake on the car when the throttle is closed, one has to use power to coast down hill which on cars fitted with ordinary axles one has to use brakes. As regards forward drive the axle is still very efficient and running well also the worm and worm wheel do not appear to be suffering badly from wear and tear and are in considerably better condition than the Lanchester worm.
