I. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 685 (50 B) (X 14). 29.1.18. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} P. 10m. ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, NIGHTINGALE ROAD, DERBY. TELEGRAMS: "ROYCAR," DERBY. TELEPHONES: 813 (Two Lines). DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. This column is for Name of Person addressed. DATE. While the vibration is on there is a low growl but the axle does not sing or howl. Whilst the axle was new this trouble was hardly noticeable but has increased until it has now caused the axle to be unsuitable for use on our cars. I am investigating further into this vibration and making tests with slipper drive brake drum, spring couplings, etc. On the forward drive there is no such vibration, in fact as regards noise is still excellent and has always been so from the first. 2. On the dynamometer, when running on first gear maximum torque the worm and worm wheel has a tendency to seize. This started the car to jagger and jump badly and on examination we found that the metal had been badly torn Contd. This sheet must be filed with the correspondence to which it refers. | ||
