RR 788 REVISED (10H) (DG 348 19-7-29) SM. 6/643. COMPLETED 18.9.30. X7220 STANDARDISATION of CHASSIS PARTS. Date: 11.7.30. Description of Parts: GOODRICH ENDLESS CANVAS RUBBER FAN BELT. Origin: To improve the efficiency of the cooling system. Experimental Test Report: We have proved that this gives a better drive when spring loaded and stretches less. We recommend that it is run choc-a-bloc. Road Test Report: Run 10,000 miles on 23-EX. Brooklands tests shew improvement to cooling system. Smith} | 16.9.30 | Agreed & subject to Rs{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} remarks re non choc-a-bloc. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | 14.7.30 | Belt is agreed to be better than leather but I cannot agree to running it choc-a-bloc. The belt tension must be governed and maintained by spring. Also if necessary the spring can be made stiffer. We must be careful not to pass from something which is good and lasting though of less efficiency to something which requires more careful service.
