(sheet 2) If it is agreed that the scheme is sufficiently attractive to proceed further with we think we can provide temporary fixings for the jack at each corner, which will serve to demonstrate the jacking system, and will not be a very costly experiment. We have asked Sessions to let us have a jack which can be tried in the experimental department, to determine whether it is likely to be satisfactory from the point of view of ease of operation, freedom from oil leaks, and to enable us to know its weight. We understand that the jack itself will cost us approximately 25/- - the present screw jack costs 22/6d. The modified front and rear dumb irons will increase the cost, as also will the rear bumper fixing which is at the moment provided by the coachbuilder. Against this however we shall no longer need:- (1) the jacking pads at present fitted to the rear springs at an approximate cost of 11/- per chassis. (2) jacking pads on the front springs - 6/4d per chassis. (3) front bumper safety device - 11/3d per chassis. Providing the Experimental Department report satisfactorily on the sample jack, we would like to recommend that we proceed to rig up the temporary jacking points in order to demonstrate the system. If the demonstration shows that the scheme is sufficiently attractive to go further with, then the final designs can go ahead sufficiently to enable an accurate estimation of the cost to be arrived at.
