X.2814 X.3159 X64 X3440 OCCASIONAL MISFIRING AT LOW SPEEDS (ON LOAD) WHEN R.R. BATTERY INDUCTION COIL SYSTEM USED (1) The first experimental coils were satisfactory on test. (2) In production coils, cases of misfiring have occurred, which have been more frequent of late. (3) Results of recent production tests on coils show - (a) Even sparking only, when current in a given direction in primary. (b) In several coils intermittent misfiring has occurred, even when current direction is the best. (c) In several coils a definite break down has occurred in the H.T. winding, so that coils ceased to spark during the 10 minute teste on 5-6 mm. spark gaps. (d) On the open circuit 5 min. test sparking frequently occurred between H.T. winding and primary terminals through the shellac jointing between the terminal board and the coil box. (e) No failures on "continuity" test. (During the last two weeks). (4) Normal coil gives long spark, when H.T. wire held directly over "earth". (5) The following tests were carried out on an R.R. coil and a Remy 6 volt 12 cylinder coil for comparison - Contd. | ||
