C O P Y. Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler} Laboratory. Report No. L1176. Re Deposit from Oilways of Con. Rod from Chassis CSK-10 and four Gudgeon Pin Bushes from chassis 6-TB - Pt4/FM14.2.28. We have examined the deposit from the four gudgeon pins ex chassis 6-TB (returned herewith), and find that besides carbon there is a large amount of (1) Siliceous material similar to road grit (2) Metallic particles; these together forming about 50% of the residue. We think it possible that the grit and metal may have bonded together with colloidal carbon and have formed a cumulative filter effect, extracting and piling up the abnormal quantities of carbon noted. The deposit from the connecting rod from chassis CSK-10 was found to consist mainly of very finely divided metal, with a very little siliceous matter. We were unable to go further with this owing to the small amount and condition of the deposit. Hl. | ||
