re. EAC. EXHAUST SYSTEM. 49230

Please find attached a blue print of LeC. 1857., shewing an EAC. exhaust manifold arranged with double pipes connected together by an ejector to avoid loss of power due to interference, and to provide a more efficient system.

The downtake pipe connecting to the silencer is shewn .5" larger in dia. than the original, which increases the cross sectional area 50%.

We should like to know if full scale designs should be put in hand of either LeC. 1857. attached, or drawing LeC.1856., shewing a plain larger manifold, or whether both types should be tried.

We are proceeding to modify the exhaust butterfly valve design. One of the limitations we have to reckon with on this job, and on the silencer cutouts is the rattling of these valves due to the pulsations of the exhaust.

We understand from Derby that if there is any slack in the control the valve will certainly rattle and for this reason the 40/50 exhaust deflector valve was fitted with a spring on the valve spindle lever to stop the vibration which was found to occur.
