-3- seems that these pumps are not sufficiently reliable to be in the hands of a customer. as fixed on this car I shall be glad to see a copy of the maker's report on these pumps. I would also suggest that a spare part be carried on this car, as a pump failure at present is rather serious. - very incredible. The carburation of the car seemed to be poor, but seemed to improve when the pumps were once working correctly. Were these petrol pumps used on the 10,000 mile test, as there is no comment about them in GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s 10,000 mile test report? Further points to note on the above are as follows .- (a) Synchromesh. This is rather sluggish and occasionally jams on second and third gear. It is rather disappointing after 10,000 miles running, and is no better in this respect than what we experience on a new chassis. (b) Change gear vibration up to about 40 m.p.h. This is not a period rattle, but a noise which can be confused with tappet noise. not on change gear lever (c) Slight piston knock when starting up cold is noticeable; the tappet mechanism, however, appears to be very good and a big improvement on our Phantom II. (d) The springing seems normally good for a Phantom II, and for low rated springs there seems less sway from the standard; also the steering-controlability is an improvement. (e) Engine vibration, etc. seems an improvement on the standard Phantom II. (f) The axle has slight 'growl' periods. Tyres very noisy. no comment taken down EP{G.
