561 W/S [Strikethrough] Copy to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}2/DP.27.2.40. Re: 25/30 H.P. Chassis No.WMB-43. W.B. Gardner Henderson Esq., Mileage 22961. We received a complaint from The Clyde Automobile Co. Ltd., that the 2nd. gear in the above Owners car was sticking. As they were unable to correct same we asked them to send us the gearbox complete for investigation. After dismantling, it appears that two of the lugs on the 2nd motion shaft have broken off and got jammed in the 2nd gear mechanism causing the gear and synchromechanism to stick. I am sending the 2nd motion shaft to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} for his views, at the same time I should like to point out that the radius on the lugs has been altered on a later drawing, possibly to overcome this trouble. Drawing No. GW.2261 supersedes Drawing No. GW.1884 and the latest type shaft has now been fitted. The gearbox will be returned to The Clyde Automobile Co tomorrow Wednesday February 28th, and please note we have not had any communication from the Owner only from The Clyde Auto Co. No doubt the Owner will require some explanation, and I am afraid we shall have to say it was owing to the fact that some foreign matter had got into the synchro-sliding mechanism, and hope for the best, Presume you will write Owner on these lines if you agree with my suggestion.
