(Handwritten note in margin) Valve springs

(Handwritten note) This would suggest that proportions are correct, but I understand further test show want of uniformity,. After hardening at lowest possible temperature in cold oil or water or salt bath let them down. in boiling oil until they take permanent set rather than break when tested on rig or by an excess of tension there should be no difficulty in getting them soft enough, we were able to do so years ago with pot of Tallow with gas jet under. Use the chrome steel which gave such good results on road springs when we hardened it.
