1379 SECRET. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rml/R.23.1.39. PUBLICITY - PAULIN BENTLEY. We have had a telephone message from Paris to say that the car is now on the road again fitted with the overdrive box. The previous tests are being repeated, and, therefore, unless bad weather intervenes, the car should be ready for the rehearsal of the road run by the middle of the week. We should, therefore, like to know, as soon as possible, whether we shall be permitted to do the test in Italy. If this permission is refused, there still seems to be no reason why the run should not be carried out on the German Autobahn, but it may be necessary to modify the project of covering 100 miles in one hour. If we have to eliminate the attempt to cover 100 miles in one hour on the road, it is, of course, always possible to do a 1 hour's run on Montlhéry at the conclusion of the road run.
