Chassis No. 3-HE-9. Dr.Schnur.
Report No. F.II. 11.10.37

We note from the above Report that when dealing with a case of clutch Jagger, Paris found it necessary during the erection of the clutch housing, after changing clutch plates to replace a 1/4" stud by a set screw in the lower half of the clutch housing.

We are assuming the 1/4" stud referred to is the one screwed into the housing over the trunnion shaft and the nut of which comes beneath the elbow union for the Bijur oiling pipe to the trunnion.

We in the Test Dept. also the Repair Dept. have dismantled and erected a great number of these clutches, but have never come up against any difficulty with this stud. In any case, the engine bearer has to be dismantled and when this is out of the way we find no difficulty in lowering the bottom half of the housing away from the top. Neither in erecting do we find it is any trouble to thread this stud into the top half.

We should certainly say that it does not warrant the expense of fitting inserts in the casing so that set screws can be used.
