MINUTES OF CONFERENCE HELD AT DERBY, JAN. 23RD.

Present:- Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/TJH. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} & Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} part time.

The purpose of the meeting was to finalise the draft specification of the Left/Hand Silver Phantom drawn up by Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} The sections were dealt with in rotation.

At the outset it was explained that an 8-cyl. unit for the car is in existence already, therefore only a certain degree of modernisation would be possible.

SEC.5000. CRANKCASE & BEARINGS.

Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} The stiffened tappet doors to ECD.1446 are to have the inner stiffeners deleted, and are to be attached by a small nut tightened against a distance piece giving a predetermined degree of set-up in the pressing. A thicker washer is to be used for the joint.

SEC.5010. CRANKSHAFT.

Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} The large thrust washers are a necessity and the crank-shaft should be finalised to take these, but they cannot be applied to the unit allocated to this chassis.

It was agreed that the 8-cyl. crankshaft shouldbe finalised for a Studebaker type damper.

SEC.5030. CONNECTING ROD.

Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} The existing machined rods are to be used on this engine if suitable "forged-to-size" rods are not available in time.

SEC.5040. PISTON.

Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner} The Wraith III split skirt flush top piston will be fitted.
