Engine testing procedures and specifications for Wraith III No.4 and B.III No.7 units.

WRAITH III NO.4.

Following the test of the modified cored cylinder block and strengthened head to suit, issue short report.

Refit coolant jet cylinder block and head. Repeat water temp. test as in the case of the modified cored block and head.

Following the above, the unit to be used for development of the duplex induction system, also twin carb as specified by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}

B.III NO.7.

This new unit is now being prepared, which following its bed test will be fitted in 8.B.V.

Special parts include:-

Hoyt's metal main bearings.

Ex.31550 camshaft.

Raised crown Aerolite pistons.

B.60 type tappets with shortened push rods housed in top of tappet.

Vandervell rocker bushes.

Whilst running in the following should be observed:-

(a) Lubrication to valve tip and push rods in view of Vandervell bushes.

(b) Whether rotation of tappets is satisfactory with push rod housed at top of tappet.

After running in, check

(a) Open exhaust and silenced power with best valve timing as found on B.III No.1.

(b) Whilst carrying out the silencer curve, check ignition advance for max. power, non detonation and governor curve with TDC setting (Shell Petrol).
