SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE
12th February 1935.
H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} West, Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls Royce Ld,
DERBY.
Dear Mr. West,
Although there is no doubt that the present Petrol Gauge is a reasonably satisfactory article, we are of opinion that the present type of gear could be improved by the introduction of a finer tooth. I am sending you a sample of the latter, under separate cover, and shall be glad if you will kindly let me know whether you approve it.
I am writing you on this subject as after carefully watching our Service returns it appears that the only serious cause of failure today is sticking float gears. Personally, I am of opinion that if we could dispense with gears it would be advantageous on account of the fact that however carefully these parts are made, varying grades of petrol have a detrimental effect upon their operation.
If after inspection of the sample you would like to see Mr. Manwaring, will you please be good enough to write him at the Chace Hotel, Coventry.
Yours very truly,
C.W. Nichols
SALES DIRECTOR
