X5400 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M12.12.30. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} CX{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}/HN.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} 25HP. - re. LUGGAGE GRIDS & WHEEL CARRIERS. X.5400 X.5600 It is proposed to use on the 25HP. the same system of wheel and carriers as on P. 2. N. SCH. 3184. This shews a vertical rear spare wheel on a dummy hub carrier - as drawn on N. sch. 2769. already sent to you, with the following modifications. (1) Modified hub to move wheel away from rear crossmember and to provide packing between hub and bracket. (2) P. 2. fixing handle and bolt. (3) Revised end to hub crossmember to take grid fixing. All the latest P. 2. detail modifications should be applied to this design. The luggage grid is intended to be entirely the same as P. 2. but for the bracket on the frame and the lengths of the tubes. We have also changed over the screwed fixing of the hinged tip, a modification which should be made to apply to both P. 2. and 25HP. This arrangement will be applicable to the bulk of 25HP. cars, except the maximum 6 seater bodied cars. N. SCH. 3185. This scheme shews a sloping rear wheel with identically the same luggage grid as for the vertical wheel. The wheel carrier is the same also except for a shorter triangular nose stay and a set tube for carrying the dummy hub. With this scheme the present maximum bodies are permissible. We suggest that either position of the wheel be offered as standard on the chassis print, and to enable this to be done economically we have retained the drilling of the frame for both. As only one spare wheel is standard, spare wheel carriers at the side will not normally be required. We do not propose offering a grid only at the rear, at the moment, as on the 25HP. this is seldom asked for. We shall continue to offer the dummy hub for bolting on to the back of dickey lids and boots etc when requested. The fishtail is attached to the rear crossmember, using P. 2. pieces, and a bracket from the second. crossmember like N. sch. 3174. As we believe SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is anxious to get this scheme of grid and wheel tested we suggest that it be sent out to be fitted to 18.G.IV. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
