-2- Contd. to let us have another magneto of this type. We suggest that this magneto should also be fitted with similar cams. We wish to impress upon you that circumstances at the moment are such that it must be greatly to your advantage to do what we ask with all possible speed. Can we have new cams early next week ? We perhaps should have mentioned that owing to the altered timing, the electrical functioning of the magneto with the cams that are good for noise is bad. It has occurred to us to make an experiment of the mechanical noisiness (only) of a magneto by utilising these cams first one way round in the cam ring and then the other. The point is, we want to find out whether the majority of contact breaker noise is produced at the break or at the make. If the magneto is more noisy with a sharp make and a slow break than vice versa, that would fully justify the features of the cam for which we have asked. We feel that this is a matter which might have been investigated in your silence room at our suggestion some considerable time ago. Yours faithfully, ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
