X.180 To Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hsl/AD22.10.29. CARS IN EXPERIMENTAL DEPT. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}21/E16.10.29. As we are expecting shortly to send one of the experimental cars to France on a 10,000 mile test, it will be necessary for us to keep 23-EX until this car returns. S.S. The very minimum of/cars it is necessary to have at Derby is three. The improvements we anticipate in cars nowadays is very small, and it is dangerous to make a decision unless a part has been tried out on two or three different cars and comparisons made with the standard car. We have already agreed to hand 21-EX car over to Sales. This car, as you know, is already in London, and we have told C. that we do not want it back again. This leaves us with - 18-EX which is at present in London, but is booked for Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence this year. 19-EX which we anticipate will be the car to go to France for 10,000 miles test and 20-EX, 22-EX and 23-EX as experimental cars at Derby.
