SECRET H.S. / 6.c.s.o. To. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Nor.Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hynes re 8 Cylinder Daimler and Wraith. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5.6.36 I am in receipt of E.6/EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}25.6.34 and am glad to note that Cxt's report on his use of this car was of considerable interest to you. With regard to the impression created that the Daimler is a big and heavy car, this of course is rather borne out by facts and if you will refer to EVI/4.5.34, re the Daimler, you will see that in response to my request he gave me the comparative over-all measurements of the Daimler and 25 HP RR. and a long Phantom chassis. The wheelbase of the Daimler is 10" more than that of our 20/25 but only 8" less than our 40/50. The distance from dash to rear axle, i.e. body space is 7" more than our 20/25 and the same as our Phantom. The over-all length of the chassis is 1'11 more than our 20/25 and only 4" less than our Phantom. In other words its over-all dimensions and body space compare most more closely with our P.II than our 20/25 and, as our decision at Derby the other day was for Wraith to retain the body space of the 20/25, you will see that there is really no reason why the Wraith should have this same feeling of a large heavy car as the Daimler and, if we act on the decision of having a 5" longer Wraith to deal with larger bodies, it will still be a considerable smaller car than the Daimler, which is really what we wanted to have in order to retain our 20/25 market. I have noted with interest all the other remarks contained in your memo. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
