4 Extracts from Testimonials. THE SUNBEAM MOTOR CAR CO., LTD., Wolverhampton. We have found it of great value in examining high speed engine details under actual running conditions. This particularly applies to the valve gears of our high speed engines. WE KNOW OF NO OTHER METHOD BY WHICH SIMILAR RESULTS COULD BE OBTAINED. THE CRYPTO ELECTRICAL CO., LTD., London, N.W.10. In the development of our Patent Wound Rotor Motor for high starting torques, WE FOUND THE ELVERSON OSCILLOSCOPE INVALUABLE. BENTLEY MOTORS, LTD., London, N.W.2. We are of the opinion that YOUR INSTRUMENT IS INDISPENSABLE for the investigation of high speed mechanism. SOME APPLICATIONS. In setting out the uses given below, we would emphasise that they do not cover anything like the complete range of usefulness of the OSCILLOSCOPE but are merely intended to be examples of its various applications to different Trades; with each example, we have also stated the type of instrument usually employed but BOTH types are invariably applicable, except where it has been particularly stated that either the one or the other only can be used. Automobile Engines. (Type "A"). The OSCILLOSCOPE has successfully been used on all the various problems common to these engines and on their routine tests, to ascertain whether the engines were up to the required standard. Its uses include the exact analysis of the valve and spring actions at various speeds and loads, whether valve bounce occurred or not and at what speeds, angular measurements of the action of followers on cams, the analysis of spring surge, the behaviour of gears and chain drives, magneto drives, magneto timing, crankshaft whip, clutch transmission, carburation, primary and secondary vibrations, and various other uses. Other Internal Combustion Engines. (Type "A"). Its uses in this instance are, to a large extent, similar to those above mentioned. In Diesel and Semi-Diesel engines, the true period of the fuel sprayer can be ascertained and this will, in many cases, be found to vary considerably from the theoretical; whether dripping occurs or not and at what part of the cycle; whether any solid | ||
