X5840 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2/AD26.11.31. PISTON RINGS. On the second 25 HP. engine we have built up to the same specification as the one you are running in 18-GIV, we have had persistent blowing past the pistons. We are concerned about this and we think that the possible cause may be that our piston ring design is somewhat out of date and in consequence we are trying some new rings with altered clearances. We should, however, like to know whether you are getting any blowing past the pistons on your engine as this will give us a lead as to how urgent the matter is.
