This confirms our conversation in which we said that we were disappointed in Hancock's car before it went to France. This car has the rear rubber engine mounting only. We think that the streamlined car with complete rubber mounting is altogether better than 4-B-IV. We therefore think that we should go for the complete scheme as being a means of passing increased smoothness on to the customer immediately. We hope it will be possible to bring this in without delaying the scheme for moving the engine forward. We may want harder rubbers at the front points of the Bentley to prevent the engine being thrown about on a bad road, but it should not be difficult to arrive at a satisfactory compromise. The most awkward job is to get satisfactory cantilever pedals, the clutch operation as arranged on the streamlined car is reasonably good but not as good as the 20/25 with the link. We tried an Airflow Chrysler last week which as you know has an enormous amount of engine movement and a normal dry plate clutch. We attach a photograph showing how they operate their clutch.
