1124. To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/MH.{M. Huckerby}25.10.39. CYLINDER ARRANGEMENT OF MULTI-CYLINDER ENGINE. There is a general revival of the flat 12 cylinder engine having 2 banks of 6 cyls. Leyland's are making one, also Meadows. It has various applications in commercial vehicles and particularly rail-cars. I should like Swindon to co-operate with Bowers and get out the general character of this unit with regard to bearing loads and crankshaft torsionals. For quantities we suggest he assumes two 4 1/4-litre B.V's with Phantom III size and type big end bearings. Stepney Acres wrote a paper on Inertia Torque which was published in the "Automobile Engineer" in about 1923. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
