Laboratory Report on Non-ferrous Alloy To Mr Hives & Works Re Two pistons that broke on test. in the form of drillings marked P742 + P770 received by Laboratory on 27th Feb. 742 770 Copper 6.72 7.05 Zinc 1.8 2.5 Tin trace .06 Iron .49 .62 Silicon .40 .47 Manganese .12 .26 Magnesium .30 .26 These pistons showed a very coarse fracture & are peculiar in that they are high in zinc. The alloy is rather on the stiff side also owing to the relatively high manganese & magnesium. We have found that zinc above 2% is a disadvantage for pistons. | ||
