With reference to our petrol filters, these have done very well up to the present. There ought not to be any difficulties in removing the top and examining the filter. I will experimentally do so personally, and see what troubles are likely to occur. We were anxious not to put in a separate filter, owing to the complication of parts, and we think in future that an additional filter should be embodied in the carburettor design, as we did in the aero engine carburettors. There is just the odd chance that the trouble with these filters may have occurred since the introduction of benzol, which I should be glad if you and Mr. Hives will enquire into. The alternative seems to be that impure water has been allowed to accumulate in the petrol tank, with the result of destroying the copper. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
