We have discovered our copy of HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/T21026., and apologise for having troubled you.

We are not quite sure that we understand the figures given. The new friction plates provided 3 surfaces at approximately the present friction surfaces radius instead of 1. Should not your figure then of 1100 be 2200?

With reference to the 600 lbs. which you think would be sufficient, the radius of the present friction surface is about .750 so that the equivalent friction couple would be 600 lbs X .750 X .1 X 3 - that is, about 135 lbs. ins. In a report of the same date you asked for 20 to 40 lbs. on the damper ball end which is attached by a link to the cross steering tube. Since the radius of the latter is 8.5" we believe this is the equivalent to a friction couple of say 40 times 8 1/2, or 340 lbs. ins.
