Mr Barrington. RR WORM AXLE TESTS The following is a report from Hives on the one used on 1649 & which broke during jaggering tests. " Hindley type gears cut in U.S.A. Condition of gears when new was poor. Run 200 miles on the Dynamometer on 2004, 4 x 6 engine car, 2,813 miles on the road. This worm was never very good for silence, there was a distinct hum forward and growled on retard, with running it improved. The vibrations from the axle were bad and could be felt right through the car when on retard. It was tested for brake jaggers, and at about the 4th application of the brake, the casing of the axle broke. The braking action was more grabby than the | ||
