In order to get the back of the sports car down, we have been running 10-EX with half an inch off the buffer. With this set up the axle will only touch the buffers on very rare occasions because the extra half inch gives a very considerable increase in poundage with the very stiff springs fitted. We much prefer this to thicker buffer which is continually being struck and will always give a jar to the passengers.

Under the circumstances we think the clearances shewn on N.schs.2497 and 2494 will be rather close - we are suggesting putting 1/4" all round.
