FROM PN{Mr Northey}

We are frequently asked to give advice to owners of Phantoms as to how to prevent the foot accelerator sticking when the car has been running fairly hard for half an hour or so.

Again today I have a letter from Captain Boyle; he and his brother both own Phantoms and both complain that whilst they like the car very much, it is most inconvenient to have to put up with the occasional sticking of the throttle, sometimes very hard, resulting in bent parts.

11-EX has recently proved itself very troublesome in this respect and is in the hands of "N" at the moment because of it.

I am anxious to know whether you have any definite information on this point either as to a reliable means of preventing it occurring with the existing Phantoms, or encouragement that in the near future there will be a modification enabling this trouble to be avoided.

As you know, along with this trouble frequently goes sticking of the exhaust butterfly.

I understand from Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} that there is a tendency for carbon deposit to settle on the throttle butterfly valve bearings, which tends to contribute to this sticking condition and which he as a matter of routine takes steps to remove when decarbonising the engines.

I shall be glad to have any remarks you have on this point as early as possible.

P.N.
