contd:- -3- Carburation. This is a feature which is now receiving practically all TMW's attention. We are now making up further complete parts - such as - throats, jets, air valves etc. and we have arranged for him to take 1-Goshawk-11 and live on the car with the job during Easter. TMW's health is far from good and I have persuaded him to see Dr. Campbell Thompson and he has advised him to "get out", so I thought the above action would suit all parties concerned. Your note is rather interesting inasmuch that it states that a .625 high speed throat is most satisfactory whereas as regards our general experience on 40/50 carburetters, I certainly feel that a 40/50 carburetter can be made to function so as to give pure acceleration by having the petrol level very low and the surface of the jet cones etc. in a rough condition. It is certainly consistent the improvement one gets in acceleration by going out to these two features especially as this is so with the low speed jet. I am giving this to you pure and simply as my experience in the past in handling 40/50 carburetters and have no doubt that TMW. will be able to enlarge on this in carrying out the test you have suggested. If 6-Goshawk-11 arrives in France tonight so that Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} could start out for Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence tomorrow, he should get there about Wednesday night or Thursday the 13th. inst. which according to your programme should give you until the 22nd. before leaving Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence. I take it you will return unless the car is unfit to run, with Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} to Laval so that we can expect you back at the Works about the 29th. inst. I am anticipating that we shall not have got rid of 7-Goshawk-11 by that time and should therefore be able to take full advantage of your experience and knowledge in order to turn this car out in the best and latest possible condition. Of course, we should have liked to have kept 8-Goshawk-11 a bit longer, in view of your push and we are anxious that full advantage should be taken of the Meeting at Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence with R, yourself and Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} The car in its present condition and your memo. above referred to, rather confirm that we have done what you required. Re. Oil Filter. The oil filter on 5-Goshawk-11, 6-Goshawk-11 and 7-Goshawk-11 was of the coarse gauze type as per latest instructions and I know that this was so on 5-Goshawk-11 during the Unit Test and that this must be the case now unless it has, for some unknown reason, been changed in the meantime, but Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} can, of course, confirm this.
