Owing to some confusion between the Works and the D.O. an alteration was made altering the angle of the corner which made the matrix not suitable for the bottom tank. Whilst the change was put forward by the Works, the D.O. should have checked and proved that it was correct or faulty. However, the change was made, and about 40 to 50 matrices have been made to the incorrect corner angle. These are wrong, and will not fit the bottom tanks. All matrices made to this incorrect angle will have to be returned to Marstons to be put right. The correct angle is 46° 30 minutes from the vertical. The work will have to be done against an A.T.R. order number. Will the C.O. please issue the necessary instructions to Messrs. Marstons to correct the matrices which they have at their Works. The error has been already explained to them, and they understand what is required. A new drawing was issued from this Department a fortnight ago, but I find it only reached Marstons yesterday. This has resulted in possibly another 10 to 20 matrices being made wrong. It is important when alterations are made that blueprints are sent immediately to outside contractors. By BY.{R.W.
