re. Springing Complaints of Rolls-Royce Cars
by Messrs. Cockshoot.

Dealing with the above matter, arrangements were made for a further visit to Messrs. Cockshoot to deal with Mr. Howarth's 40/50 HP? Car, No. 28-UG, upon which I reported fully in my EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/H9.1.25.

I have also recommended to BJ. that a Coachbuilding expert should be sent to Messrs. Cockshoot to advise them in regard to the padding, springing of the upholstery etc.

I am rather of the opinion that the complaint of poor springing made by Messrs. Cockshoot is chiefly due to faulty body work.

In trying the Lanchester car, which Mr. Howarth explained was quite satisfactory, I was rather interested to note that the body was mounted on a sub-frame, the body itself resting on the main frame on about 6 or 8 rubber blocks, the scuttle being entirely isolated from the dashboard. The riding in the back of the car was very good as regards absence of vibrations etc. but when driving this car the engine felt disagreeable, and was inclined to have bad periods of vibration. It was rather noisy and the carburation was very poor, and required specially careful driving. The steering was very heavy.
