[STAMP: RECEIVED 24 JUN HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}] NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I CYLINDER GASKETS. Replying to your memo BY4/H28.6.26 the methods we adopt for fitting Gaskets is that we use second hand ones on the first erection of Engines. This method avoids a lot of scrap, as we have to fit a new gasket on every engine after its Unit test, when the head is dismantled for grinding valves. I therefore suggest that the 50 new Gaskets referred to in your memo should be handed to the Test Dept. so that they can be fitted on Engines after the valve grinding operation, and they can then be watched on the remaining operation of their tests. I take it that if the Gaskets are satisfactory, there will be no objection to Cars being despatched with them? Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} | ||
