Herewith we send N. sch. 2166 shewing the hydraulic shock damper mounted on the rear of the Phantom chassis. The principle alteration we have asked for is rotating the brake camshafts a few degrees downwards so as to give us clearance for the lower end of the connecting rod. We suggest that this can be done by rotating the axle tube one bolt hole forward and machining a new spring roller bracket because we do not want this to rotate with the brakes. The brake cables will of course require slightly shortening.

The shock damper itself is the one used on the front, unaltered except for the longer lever. We are also reckoning at first on your using the original heavy springs, though you may subsequently desire to make use of the new lighter ones now being employed on the front.

We have shewn the bracket for carrying the ball end on the axle in two forms, one capable of being fastened to the existing spring roller bracket forging, and the other, which we think will be the permanent job, calling for a new spring roller bracket forging.

It will be noticed that we have shewn a new bottom joint on the connecting rod reducing the overhang beyond the ball end.
