J 1300 Expl. Dept. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/MJ. 2nd. November, 1936. Messrs. Adamant Engineering Co. Ltd., Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Commander F.G. Matravers. Dear Sir, You will remember that when we were at Luton the other day you pointed out that the ball bearing manufacturers might be expected to make rollers in non case hardening steel with disastrous results, but that such a thing could not happen at the Adamant Engineering Company. We were therefore somewhat startled by our Chemist's report, copy of which we attach. The roller in question was taken from the 1.7/16 Marles steering. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
