Faults found during a 15,000-mile test of a Bentley III test car.

Waller - Head of Chateauroux}1/JH.28.9.38. 8.B.V - Bentley III. 15,000 miles test car. The following points have been noted in connection with the coachwork - (1) Sliding roof. rattles at rear end. (2) Front seats The squabs are very badly shaped, being sloped back too sharply below the small of the back. (3) Ash trays. The ash trays in the rear seat armrests catch the finger nails in a painful manner when opening them. (4) Tool box. The oil syringe will not go into its slot unless it is emptied first. (5) Window winders. Become very stiff to turn in wet weather. Other points noted. (6) Single front wheel bumps audible up steering column. (7) Bad boom 800 r.p.m. full throttle, possibly engine mounting. (8) Period at 3800 r.p.m. very noticeable in second gear. (9) Various rattles from engine movements at very low speeds pulling. (10) Gear lever rattles in gate. (11) Slight brake squeaks, particularly when cold. Diagonal stays FW.1723 fitted by coach builders between centre of petrol tank cross member and body at base of rear seat squab on each side. Stiffening plates fitted at points of attachment to body.
