X.4168b - SILENT STARTER MOTOR ACTUATION
- H15/CHS.8.20. -

We have now had working on experimental chassis 6EX for a week or two, a silent starter motor actuation scheme to your H15/CHS.8.20. the units of the scheme being, besides battery, starter motor and push button switch:-

(a) Main switch with separate terminals for the coil and contacts.
(b) Actuator box, with auxiliary contact made in the 'in' position of the armature.
(c) Two-way relay switch with auxiliary contacts.

The units are connected in accordance with the photostat diagram herewith, this being the equivalent of the diagram given in your note referred to.

The windings of the various units have been arranged in the correct proportions to give the result required. The coils of the actuator box unit are each wound with No. 18 S.W.G. and the two connected in parallel. It has been necessary to arrange these to give a rather large turnover motor current (about 40 amperes) to get a really satisfactory result on the chassis. This current is rather heavy on the A contact of the two-way relay switch.

The two-way relay switch has been made up from a second actuator box unit from which the toggle has been removed and a spring inserted; Two windings have been arranged symmetrically, half of each on each core, and switch contacts have been arranged to do the work. These are
